We have received the following updated information concerning the casualty to general cargo ship, ULTRA GALAXY (IMO: 9449352).
* It is now reported that the vessel developed a heavy list in challenging weather conditions whilst navigating off the west coast of South Africa on 8 July 2024.
* The crew later abandoned the vessel which subsequently ran aground and capsized onto its starboard side on 9 July 2024, in a position approximately 40 nautical miles south of Strandfontein, South Africa.
* Two tugs were later deployed to the vessel to attempt to salvage the vessel and its cargo. We understand that salvage efforts may still be ongoing.
* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
* We therefore again recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.

* We have received reports that a distress call was received from general cargo ship, ULTRA GALAXY (IMO: 9449352), whilst the vessel was navigating off the west coast of South Africa on 8 July 2024.
* The vessel's navigational status is reported to be Not Under Command since early morning on 8 July 2024.
* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and/or Recovery issues may arise on the event of any casualty experienced by the vessel.
