Description
* We have received reports that containership CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (IMO:9706891), encountered adverse weather conditions in a position approximately 40 nautical miles south of Durban, South Africa, on 09 July 2024.
* It is reported that approximately 44 containers have been lost overboard from the vessel and around 30 more containers have sustained damage as a result of the incident.
* The vessel is reported not to have sustained any significant damage as a result of the incident and is proceeding towards Cape Town to allow the damaged containers to be discharged or restowed to the vessel to enable the voyage to be safely resumed.
* It is possible that claims for physical loss or damage to cargo and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident and we have cargo surveyors on hand to assess the extent of damage to cargo, if required.
