Description
* We have received reports that approximately 115 containers stowed on board containership SM PORTLAND (IMO: 9409027) have been damaged or lost overboard as a consequence of adverse weather conditions whilst the vessel was transiting the Bering Sea on 5 March 2025.
* It is reported that the vessel will continue its voyage at a reduced speed towards Vancouver where it will be subject to inspection by Canadian authorities before being allowed to berth there.
* It is possible that GA issues may arise as a result of this incident, as well as claims for physical loss or damage to cargo and we have cargo surveyors on hand to assess the extent of damage to any affected cargo, if required.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo stowed on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
