Description
* We have received reports that containership CMA CGM J. MADISON (IMO: 9780897), experienced a fire on board whilst navigating the Straits of Malacca, on 18 August 2025.
* It is reported that the fire has been extinguished with the assistance of professional salvors and the vessel is now anchored off Port Klang, Malaysia for inspection.
* It is likely that cargo stowed near the vicinity of the fire will have suffered fire, heat, and/or smoke damage and/or wet damage, and we have cargo surveyors on hand to establish the extent of damage to any cargo so affected, as necessary. Temperature and time sensitive cargo stowed on board the vessel may also be adversely affected by any prolonged delay in continuation of the voyage.
* It is possible that General Average and associated Recovery issues may also arise as a result of this casualty.
* If General Average is declared, General Average security may be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
