Description
10 December 2025
------------------UPDATE 4-------------------
* The fire was brought under control at the anchorage and the vessel has since been re-berthed at 212 of the Yusen Terminal in Los Angeles.
* Salvors are obtaining the necessary approvals for the fire-fighting water to be pumped from the vessel’s holds.
* Additionally, salvors are mobilizing equipment to allow the discharge of the damaged / affected containers.
* Our appointed fire expert has begun investigations into the cause of the fire and will be attending onboard shortly to continue these investigations. There will also be a formal investigation by the NTSB / USCG which will report in due course.
* We are liaising with the GA adjusters and the salvor’s representatives regarding the security required in respect of both the GA claim and LOF salvage claim. We will be assisting our clients in respect of the provision of both securities.
* We have been instructed by a considerable number of cargo interests and we are therefore able to offer economies of scale in respect of the costs of dealing with this matter for the benefit of all our clients.
* We recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel. As soon as containers are ready to be delivered, securities will need to be in place so we would urge all of our clients to contact us asap regarding any exposure they may have.

------------------UPDATE 3-------------------
* It is now understood that General Average (GA) has also been declared.
* Accordingly, both GA and LOF Salvage securities will be required from all cargo on board. We will be able to assist with the provision of both securities.
* It is reported that the fire has now been contained on board, and salvage crews operating under the LOF are preparing to return the ONE HENRY HUDSON to Yusen Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles.
* Once the vessel is berthed at the port, its cargo and water accumulated from firefighting efforts will be safely offloaded and removed. Investigations and assessment of the vessel and cargo are still ongoing.
* In order to avoid delays we recommend that you contact us as soon as possible if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
26 November 2025
------------------UPDATE 2-------------------
* It has now been confirmed that salvage services are being rendered to the vessel on LOF terms.
* Salvage security will therefore need to be provided by a party acceptable to the Salvors or the Council of Lloyd’s on behalf of all cargo on board. Security provided by WKW is acceptable to the Council of Lloyd’s and we will therefore be able to assist our clients in this respect.
* We will need to see if General Average is also declared. If so, General Average securities will also be required.
* PA claims and recovery issues will also arise in respect of loss or damage to cargo as a result of the fire and/or the fire-fighting operations. Photographs of the vessel indicate that there is extensive flooding in hold 3, which is estimated to be 80% full of water from the firefighting efforts.
* We have cargo surveyors on the scene to assess the extent of damage to any salved cargo at the appropriate time and we have retained a fire expert to investigate the cause of the fire.
* A number of cargo insurers have already instructed us and we are therefore able to offer economies of scale in respect of the investigative costs which will need to be incurred.
* We recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.

------------------UPDATE 1-------------------
* Further to our Casualty Advice concerning the fire on board container ship, ONE HENRY HUDSON, it is further reported that the vessel was undocked and taken under towed to a position approximately 1 nautical mile from its berth on 22 November to facilitate firefighting and salvage operations.
* It is further reported that the fire remained burning as of 24 November, but that it had been contained to a single cargo hold, whilst firefighting operations continue.
* It is likely that GA/Salvage and Recovery issues will arise as a result of this incident and we confirm having retained a fire expert to investigate the cause of the fire, as necessary. We may be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of any such costs which may need to be incurred.
* Cargo surveyors also remain on hand to assess PA damage to any affected cargo we are instructed to represent.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
------------------ORIGINAL-----------------
* It has been reported that whilst the containership ONE HENRY HUDSON (IMO: 9302176) was berthed at the Port of Los Angeles, USA on 21st November 2025, an electrical fire broke out below deck followed by a subsequent explosion mid-deck.
* A firefighting operation is ongoing with the Los Angeles Fire Department having mobilised 120 firefighters to the scene. Firefighting vessels are also assisting with boundary cooling to the vessel's exterior.
* The fire and explosion have resulted in a reported loss of power on board, including lighting and crane operations. All 23 crew are understood to have been evacuated.
* It is possible that General Average/Salvage may arise as a result of this casualty and we will be able to assist our clients in this respect.
* There will also no doubt be damage to containers and cargo on board, both in the proximity of the fire/explosion and as a result of the subsequent firefighting operation. Delays to cargo deliveries also seems inevitable.
* Local surveyors have been instructed to assist with surveys of any affected cargo.
* We recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
